On Saturday I spent the day at the mall, drawing and painting on TOMS shoes! It was a lot of fun–and a little stressful! I drew or about 5.5 hours and my hand was cramping up by the end. I think everyone was happy with how their shoes turned out except for maybe the crazy high-maintenance woman at the very end who wanted a cobra on her son’s shoes. She wanted something realistic (which she didn’t say until after I’d started), but I did cartoony, and, let’s be honest, if I’d tried to make it look realistic it would have looked terrible. The kid really liked them, so whatever!
I did some really cool patterns on two pairs of shoes–the girls who requested them asked for them to match their woven bags–but unfortunately the picture above is the only one I got all day since I was super-busy!
By the way, do you like my cupcake dress? I made it out of fabric I had printed at Spoonflower and an old t-shirt! I also made some coffee cup pajama pants which I will have to show you another time. I’m terrible* at sewing, but am about 70% happy with how both items turned out, which is really saying something for me! =]
You might notice that I am not wearing TOMS. I don’t own any. Maybe one day when I make money again I’ll buy some TOMS. They are really comfy and now I know I can draw on them! =P
What did you do this weekend?
Do you have any TOMS? Ever drawn on them?
*By “terrible” I mean anything beyond straight lines is impossible and I’m always redoing things 5-6 times because I can’t figure out how shapes go together.
