Job Interviews
Holy cow! How exciting! I wake up this morning and check my email and see that I have THREE responses to jobs I applied for on FRIDAY! Jobs that I may, in fact, actually want. I don’t want to jinx myself, but I am very excited because even if I don’t get a job, it’s more than I’ve heard from anyone in MONTHS. One of the jobs is ridiculously part-time, but sounds pretty awesome (teaching kids to draw!). The other two are both in marketing and sound neat, but I will have to learn more about the companies–I don’t want to do anything commission based/pyramid scheme sounding! So, we shall see.
This also brought a rush of panic being that they wanted to interview me THIS WEEK. Did I mention the jobs are in Indianapolis and I’m in Encinitas? Well, fortunately I’d already bought a ticket home, but not until Wednesday night/Thursday morning. I should be getting home about 12 hours before my interview. I will have to call the other company next week to arrange an interview since I wasn’t available this week (but they told me to call to set it up, so that’s good), and I can’t let the part-time job know anything until I know how my full-time work will affect it.
Shopping
One of the fun things though, was that I had to do a little shopping since I didn’t actually own a suit. But now I do! Well, not technically a full suit, the jacket doesn’t match the pants, but looks great with them, and I got a very nice collared shirt to go with (in the prettiest teal). I’ll have to model it and post it because I think I love the outfit.
Everything I bought today was on sale… Actually a very good deal. However, two blazers, pants, and a shirt cost $223. This is actually a very good deal since one of the blazers was originally $265, the other was $150, and I don’t remember what the pants and shirt were, but not cheap. Thank god for outlet malls with clearance racks.
Now, before you all go, “why did you have to buy a whole new suit?” let me explain: the last suit I owned was a size 2.
Thanks, Germany, for having great beer.
Obviously, I could not fit in any of my old “work” attire. The items I bought today, with the pants my mom bought me and a few shirts I own, should actually give me enough for a week in a real office. Maybe. Not if I have to wear a blazer everyday, then I’ll have to get creative, but I think that’s probably unlikely? And in any case, I didn’t have anything to wear to an interview since I didn’t have a blazer. So, I now own two blazers, three pairs of slacks, and probably three “work” shirts not including sweaters. I think this is okay, and hopefully enough because… I’m not going to spend any money next week.
No-Spend Week
That’s right. I’m joining Consumption Rebellion and not buying anything from 26 March - 2 April. NOTHING. Not even yarn! I am going to do it! Although it will be hard because I have patterns I want to crochet, but I will have to stash-bust or just do something else crafty! This actually will help, since I need to seriously downsize my supplies anyhow.
I don’t normally spend a lot of money, but I’ve definitely spent more than normal since getting to California. It’s just that I’m basically a tourist out here, and I want to go do things, and things cost money. But on the 26th I will be home, and no longer a tourist. And while I may want to buy awesome craft supplies, they will just have to wait. I have plenty of things already that need using, so I may as well use them.
PS. I took those flower pictures at the San Diego Botanic Garden. The white one is actually my most viewed photo on Flickr!
